Dawn of the Dead
Maj. Jason Hall (Brother of Police Sergeant Kenneth Hall)
As you may know in the movie, Ken at one point tries to reach his brother at Fort Pastor Army Base. They never get the chance but for this scenario we're going to say that Ken did make it to his brother.
Jason is 26 years old and in great physical shape. He stands about 5'11 and weighs 204 lbs. Though Kenneth is a serious character, Jason would be more laid back as he is quite a bit younger than Ken and hasn't been hardened by war and police work as much as his brother. Well he’s as laid back as you can get in a world that has become overrun with zombies. As a member of the Army Rangers and local police force Jason has gone through extensive physical and mental training. This is good because like his brother people will also look to him as a leader. Also it helps the group because other than Ken and C.J they don't really have people who are good with guns. Jason is also someone that people can confide in, he is a good listener and has a soft heart even though he is supposed to be a hardened solider.
Now to add him to the movie without changing much of it is simple. There is a scene already where Kenneth is packing a bag to go to the base, Michael convinces him to stay at the mall and help keep them safe. In my 10-20 minute scene, Kenneth is packing his bag and Michael makes the decision to go with him. They go to the dead zombified janitor in the sporting goods store that was killed earlier and grab his keys. They then head to the underground garage and find his truck. The story might need to be slightly changed so that the base is within decent distance with the mall. Upon arriving to the base, Ken and Michael see that the zombies eventually broke through the perimeter and breached the doors, there was just too many of them and not enough people on base. Michael tries to get Ken to go back to the mall but Ken who must find out his brothers fate insist that they go inside. Luckily when they go inside they find that most of the zombies have moved on, they do encounter a few but with Kens Benelli M4 shotgun and Mikes Browning 9x19 mm handgun they easily take them down. They explore the base until they find the barracks and they find it locked. Michael shots the lock out with his pistol and they walk in to find Jason and another soldier named Alex held up inside the room. Jason and Alex explain what happened at the base and that they had decided to hold up in that room because the zombies could not make their way in and they had plenty of MREs if they needed food (packaged meals given to soldiers to carry in their bags). They also expected reinforcements or the whole mess to be over with soon. After all that it had gotten dark so they decided to move to another barrack that still had its lock so they could sleep and leave in the morning when it’s light out. Before they left the base they stocked up on guns, ammo and medical supplies. On the way back to the mall they speed past plenty of zombies and were fortunate enough that one or more of them didn't get in their way. As they drove they listened to the emergency radio broadcast airing and it was explaining that if you are bitten or scratched you would become one of them. Alex's heart sank, he had been bitten as the soldiers retreated and fell back to the barrack chambers. Before he could tell the others they had arrived at the mall to find the parking lot even more crowded with zombies. Michael knew they couldn't get the garages open without being overrun with them. They needed a distraction. Alex, knowing his fate, got out of the car and started running while the zombies chased him. Michael, Ken and Jason took this momentary distraction and drove into the garage. Alex ran until he was surrounded and when he saw the garage close, he took his life so the others could live. Once inside the garage, a couple zombies had also got inside so Jason took out his M16 assault rifle and killed them.
After that added scene the movie would continue its general plot lines. As far as relationships go with the other characters Jason would be well liked and received by them because of his laid back and friendly demeanor and ability to protect them. Obviously Kenneth and Jason would get along and Jason even gets Ken to drop his guard and relax just a little bit and open up to the other people. Even Steve would get along well with Jason they would be able to joke around with each other and talk about women, seeing that Steve and Jason got around a bit before everything went to shit. He also has a decent relationship with Andy though they never get to actually talk. Using the white boards for communication they have contests to see who shot the most zombies in the head in one minute. Andy stands on the gun shop roof while Jason stands on the mall roof. The others keep score. Though some of the other survivors have argued with each other like Michael and C.J and Steve and others Jason remained the same nice guy the whole time because he believed that just because the world they knew had become hell that without each other and unity they would fail. While the survivors in the mall start reinforcing the shuttle buses to drive to Steve’s boat Jason helps the guys with the labor. When the survivors were getting ready to board the now completely reinforced buses many of them were scared and Jason comforted them with his speech "Look, I know you're scared, heck I'm scared. But today we're going to be fearless, today we leave this prison and we try to get to freedom, we deserve it. What's out there on those streets will get in here eventually and when they do we're going to be gone. So let's get to that island! Take all that fear inside of you and turn it into hope, turn it into confidence. Today we are free and today we are untouchable. We will get through this, I will lead you through this, I will protect you and so will God." If you have seen the movie you know what happens next. One of the buses crashes, killing some of the survivors. The other bus makes it to the docks and Ana, Kenneth, Nicole, Terry and Jason make it to the boat. The ending will remain the same with their fates undecided.
